Intel Pentium D 930 3.0GHz Dual-Core Processor

Dual Core 930 just TOO HOT

Strengths: fast, speed ok

Weakness: slow down after 8 months of used, power supply was fried in 7 months, not sure if it has to do with this CPU

I didn’t read any review about this processor when I brought it 8 months ago, never though that cooling was a problem since I’ve been with INTEL CPUs since pII, and so on. Never like to overclock my CPU since I usually just use stock cooling sink, plus doesn’t make much of difference if you don’t game a lot.

But just last night, I experienced something new, my CPU was overheated. Luckily I had ASUS motherboard where it shuts the system when it detects that. No serious data or hardware damaged, but it really scares me, and it won’t boot until the CPU cools down.
I finally have to open the case, take off the CPU fan, clean off the dirt on the sink and the fan.

I am happy to see my system is running ago without any damages…
But big minus for CPU 930 overheating….. Never experience any thing like this in older generation of CPU even without any cleaning for 5 years. If INTEL knows this CPU runs this hot, and it’s only a 3ghz CPU, what are we going to see in the future, with 4, 5, and 6ghz or more… Water cooling, ICE cooling, or case with refrigerators? It’s not making too much sense to get a faster CPU with this problem still is not resolved.

But I would still recommend for those of you know what you are doing with hardware, if not, just be a little more careful when you pick them up, might end up frying your system.

Good... but runs so HOT

Let's just cut to the chase--I've got this installed on an ECS P4M800 PRO motherboard inside an Antec Sonata II case. The temperature at idle is 60C. I'll need to invest in a 3rd party cooling device to make this work reasonably. But the performance is good and the price is definitely right.

I recommend this as a good value--not excellent value because I have to spend the extra $25 for a decent cooling device.

Dual Core

Strengths: Fast, Reliable

Weakness: None so far

Just replaced Pentium 830 with this one (did not cost me anything, otherwise would be waste of money). Running it on Asus P5wd2-e with no problem, overclocked 20% with stock cooling. Successfully ran Battlefield 2 server and client together, applying one core to each - no lag, smooth. Very nice processor

Great Multitasker

Strengths: Great CPU. Idles at 35 C with stock cooler and artic silver compound. Great multitasker.

Weakness: Not aware of any yet

I was playing Oblivion and diskkeeper 10 was set to auto defrag. When defrag is running while I'm in the game I don't even notice it.

This is the best multitasking CPU I've ever used.

Good CPU I reccomend this cpu

Strengths: dual-core, 64-bit computing, Intel Virtualization Technology.

Weakness: none

This CPU is definately good for people who's standards are needed for 64-bit OS and programs and will help a bit more than single core 3.0 GHZ cpu because dual-core has 2 cores on a single cpu. Very good choice.
