Dell Ultrasharp 30

Strengths: Size, brightness, ease of use, works on either PC or MAC. Light weight

Weakness: Size, unless you have have the desk space don't consider it.

Box arrived, a little dirty and dented. Was worried about how the monitor did in shipping. Packed with more than 6 inches of extra space around the LCD. The monitor was perfect, not a lost pixel. The monitor is very light, not much more then the Dell 24" LCD which I have several. Connected to Mac G4 with ATI Radeon 9600 PRO MAC/PC and "WOW". My 24" LCD seems small beside the 30". Very sharp...

Confused about the Rave Reviews

Strengths: Really, really big.

Weakness: Extreme Ghosting especially with DVDs and anything in black...

I am confused about some of the reviews that say "no ghosting". What did you do to your screen to avoid this? I mean, when I used this puppy on the very first day, I could swear Casper lived inside my display the ghosting was so bad. DVDs are honestly unwatchable. If someone knows a trick that I don't, please let me know. Still haven't used it for gaming, I am sure it will rock with my SLI dual...

Best value for a large monitor

Strengths: Biggest LCD with a good resolution on the market. Very bright. Good price relative to the Apple Cinema, though I hear the Apples are slightly better made.

Weakness: Somewhat pricey, but better than LCD TVs with low resolution. Response time for gaming, but that applies to all LCDs. Lack of alternative inputs, for people who want to use it as a TV.

Some people have complained about the brightness uniformity. As of right now, I do not see any problem. The monitor works without dual-link DVI, but it will only be at 1280x800 resolution. I wouldn't recommend it. I suppose you can lower the resolution to play games. The power button has a really bright light, which may be a little annoying. Overall, a wonderful toy - enjoyable but perhaps a bit...

Great huge monitor

Strengths: 30" screen, max resolution 2560x1600, includes a USB HUB with a card reader CF/SM/SD/MS/MMC. Good contrast and color uniformity.

Weakness: Requires a graphic card with Dual-Link DVI-D. Only 1 input (DVI-D). Only 1 usable resolution 2560x1600. Only minimal control: brightness. Expensive.

I got this monitor to replace my Sony 20" (1600x1200) monitor. This monitor is huge and after a week of using it my old monitor seems small. The resolution of this monitor requires that you use one of the newer graphic cards that has a dual-link DVI output. It has only 1 input and 1 brightness control, DELL seems to assume you would have to use your graphic card to tweak the rest of the display...

Amazing Monitor

Strengths: Resolution (you could probably play 8 dvds at once if you needed to), size (you might want to step back a little). I won't need a new TV or monitor for a very long time.

Weakness: Expensive! Selection of inputs - probably should be accompanied by a capture card; luckily, those are cheap. Slightly uneven lighting on sides, but only if you sit close(its an incedence angle thing

For movies and games you could not find a better display. Just make sure your graphics card can support it; works wonderfully with my 7900GT.
One drawback of any monitor this size is that to run it at full resolution with modern games, you need a behemoth (or two) of a graphics card to get a good framerate.
Overall, a great choice, if you can spend the money.
