Great Hard Drive

Strengths: Fast Quiet,Cool,Cheap,Lots of room

Weakness: No cables or software come with it. The software can be downloaded from the internet.

If you do not like to spend a lot of money but want a hard drive with the performance and size of a very expensive one get this one it's wroth it.

The first one I got started making a loud metallic clicking sound when I used certain programs, and sometimes when the disk was doing whatever hard drives do when you're inbetween tasks. Sounded to me like the 'click of death', indicating a soon-to-fail drive. I ran every diagnostic test I could find: Windows disk tools, Seagate's own diagnostic, Norton, and numerous utilities to test disk integrity and health. Every one of them came up with the same answer: healthy, no problems. Nevertheless, I replaced it with a new one of the same model, from a different manufacturing batch. Very easy to install! But two hours later, comes the occasional erratic metallic click. Seagate mentions on its own website that the speed of their new SATA drives will result in an occasional noise during seeking. So...is the click 'normal', or did I get really unlucky with two bad ones in a row? At this point it's wait and see, but it makes me nervous, and I am unable to relax working with my computer. I may just trash this model, take the loss and try a different brand, just to get the clicking out of my ears.

Easy Installation for 1st time non techie

Strengths: Large capacity, Great price, Easy installation, Faster than a speeding bullet access.

Weakness: Instructions on drive could be better written and more complete.

I'm not a tetchy and I was able to install the drive in about 10 minutes after a download of DiscWizard from Seagate. I'm using this drive as a external backup. I didn't pay attention to the SATA interface so I had to purchase a SATA -> IDE Device Converter from Newegg for my Coolmax CD-510 Series 3.5/5.25 external Aluminum Enclosure which worked like a charm. I'm using this drive as a external backup. I didn't pay attention to the SATA interface so I had to purchase a SATA -> IDE Device Converter from Newegg for my Coolmax CD-510 Series 3.5/5.25 external Aluminum Enclosure which worked like a charm.

I've already backed up all data on my primary hard drive. I still have all my laptop, my photos and music to go.

Standard Seagate Quality

Strengths: Price; fast; 5-year warranty

Weakness: OEM, so no software or cables

I'm not a power user, so this drive does basically what I need. I cannot honestly see the difference between SATA-I or SATA-II, nor from the 300mbps versus 150mbs. Same goes for the 16mb cache. Note that I don't use this as my C:/ drive, so that might be part of the reason. I got it to store digital pictures, movies and mp3s. I figured it makes the most sense to buy the latest generation drive, which is the 7200.10 perpendicular recording from Seagate. Plus, its 320gb versus 300gb, so that extra 20gb might come in handy! :-)

I love the 5-year seagate warranty. You don't need to keep a receipt floating around, as they track the warranty length via the serial number. Kind of convenient.

Note that since this is an OEM drive, it does not come with a SATA cable, mounting hardware, manual or software. You can download the software from the seagate web-site, so no biggie there. Same is true for the installation instructions. Just be forewarned! I do wonder why PriceGrabber doesn't make this more clear!!

A+ hard drive

Strengths: quiet, easy to install, fast, lots of space

Weakness: none so far

i bought it from newegg.com and got it in 4 days. even though it's a OEM product but i have no trouble installing it. you can go to seagate website and download the software and make sure you buy the cable also. this hard drive is fast and quiet. it's my second seagate hard drive and i really recommend this product. A+
